Ali Brown announces retirement after a 22-year-old career - Cricket News Update
Ali Brown, Nottingham’s right-handed batsman, will cease his 22-year-old career at the end of the season, having suggested last summer that this would be his concluding crusade.
Brown was born on 11 February, 1970 at Beckenham, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851, throughout his career.
The 41-year-old batsman began his One Day International (ODI) career in 1996 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. He has played 16 ODIs in his career and scored 354 runs at an average of 22.12. His highest score was 118 runs in his career with a strike rate of 82.90.
He played his last ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brett-Lee-c48419. England lost that match by a huge margin of eight wickets.
The right-handed batsman’s First-Class career was remarkable. He made his debut in 1992. During his First-class career, he played 285 matches and 447 innings, in which he remained unbeaten 51 times. He scored 16,898 runs at an average of 42.67 and smashed the highest score of 295 not out. Brown played his last First-class game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862, while playing for Nottinghamshire, on May 18, 2011.
Brown also took part in shortest format of the game and played 79 T20 matches, in which he remained unbeaten twice and scored 1758 runs in 79 innings at an average of 22.83, with a highest score of 83.
Despite having scored 11,000 List A runs, Ali was probably one of the most successful domestic players who could not get a Test cap.
Nottinghamshire’s Director of cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Newell-c76124, said that he knew they were signing an excellent player when Brown became accessible and although it was obvious that he was in the dusk of his career, he made a large contribution here and will be remembered for his hard work in facilitating Nottinghamshires' championship last season.
"I always believed that the day my age exceeds my batting average it would be time to consider calling time on my career," Brown said. "I've made a lot of lifelong friends at Trent Bridge and The Oval. I've had a very enjoyable career at two great clubs and I've managed to win Championships at both of them which is something I could only have dreamed of when I started my career,” shared Brown.
"I'm available for all selection until the end of the season and hopefully I will have an opportunity to turn out for one final match at Trent Bridge," he further added.
