Batsman Ali Brown has signed a one-year contract extension at Nottinghamshire, which will keep him at the county until the end of next summer.
Brown signed for the county back in 2009 and played an important role in the division one county championship success last season. This could well be Brown's last season in cricket as he is currently 40
years old.
"Last season was very enjoyable for the team and for me personally and winning the championship was an achievement
that we're all immensely proud of," Brown said in a statement.
Brown has always been a player that has admitted he will never walk away from the game if he is fit enough, good enough and happy enough to play at the highest level.
He's admitted in the past that it was a bitter blow when he left http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851. This is because he had been with Surrey for the majority of his career. Nottinghamshire has provided
the platform for him to perform and took a chance on him that he seems determined to pay back.
He has a first class average of just under 43 and it's difficult to find another batsman with better statistics. Brown has left the door open on another possible year by suggesting
that if the county does well, he'll have no choice but to stay on.
"My thinking at this moment in time is that this will be my final contract, but it is hard to walk away from a club that is challenging for honours," he added.
If Brown does walk away from the game then he'll have a number of possible careers to pursue afterwards. However, he could carry on because his fitness is superb. He sets the
example of how to look after the human body to everyone else at the county.
Betting advice
Brown is a very good player who should score a lot of runs next season. He is most effective in limited overs cricket so back him to get centuries in the 20 or 40 over format
of the game. Also have a punt on him being the county's highest runs scorer.
