Ali Carter and Mark Selby off to strong start at Bangkok Convention Centre: 2011 Snooker World Cup
England are second in Group C behind Northern Ireland, despite a strong start at the Bangkok Convention Centre. Englishmen, Mark Selby and Ali Carter have grabbed victories in first two matches of 2011 Snooker World Cup against Brazil and Belgium and they
are quite satisfied with their performance during the tournament so far.
Both cuemen have displayed tremendous snooker skills in both of their group matches. They earned a comprehensive win against Brazil when they beat Fabio Luersen and Noel Rodrigues, 4-1. Both snooker stars won their individual matches but lost the doubles.
Selby spoke to the reporters after victory, “It would've been nice to win 5-0, but a win is a win and 4-1 isn't too bad. It's massively important to start with a win and, if you look at our group, ourselves and Northern Ireland are the toughest teams. As
we have the three other teams first, we need some convincing wins.”
In their next match against Belgium, Selby and Carter managed to escape from a possible defeat and won the match by 3-2. They might face difficulty facing Northern Ireland, who are on top of the group at the moment with eight points. However, the English
pair is quite confident and determined to go all the way in the competition.
The Wuxi Classic champion, Mark Selby added, “We're definitely one of the favourites to win it, but in one-frame matches anything can happen and anyone can win, so you have to have a bit of luck. It's great to see other countries taking part and, if it was
not for this tournament, you wouldn't get the chance to see them.”
Meanwhile, Carter added that representing England in 2011 World Cup Snooker was a brilliant experience for him. The performance both players are showing at the arena is impressive so far but still they have a couple of tough group matches to get past in
order to make it to the final stages of the event.
