Ali Carter backs Ronnie O’Sullivan’s decision of having break in snooker season – Snooker News
There has been a tussle once again between the four-time World Snooker Championship winner from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan and the snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) on the issue of increased snooker tournaments
in the calendar. Now the former two-time World Snooker Championship finalist, Ali Carter is also backing his move.
The Rocket wants to have a break in the season as he believes that a player cannot spare time for his family, friends and personal issues because he is always busy in different snooker tournaments throughout the world. This was a reaction against World Snooker’s
decision of increasing the number of tournaments on the calendar.
Following his decision, O’Sullivan has not signed the contract for the participation in the new season. The WPBSA, in reaction, has made clear that he can join the season at any time. However, the Captain, Ali Carter also feel the same way and has backed
Ronnie O’Sullivan’s words. He believes that the potters should have some leisure time for their personal life rather than on the table all the year.
Speaking to the BBC Sport, Carter said, “Where he is in his career and his financial situation, I agree with him 100%. Ronnie's in a fortunate position. I wish I was in his position where he's been very successful, he's a great player and he can take the
choice not to sign it.”
He added, “You might as well sign it, but that's Ronnie saying I'm not signing it because I don't agree with it. So he's having his own little protest. I can't see him not playing in the Masters, so he'll have to sign it for then.”
Carter has signed the contract for the recent snooker season and will take part in the proceedings. Nevertheless, he is unhappy with the decision that World Snooker has made regarding the number of events on the calendar. He will be starting his season run
from 2012 Wuxi Classic at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China. Carter will be hoping to put in a good performance and become consistent during the start of the new snooker season.
