Ali Carter backs Ronnie O’Sullivan’s opinion of playing in selective events – Snooker Update
Snooker world witnessed a verbal brawl between the winner of the 2012 World Snooker Championship, Ronnie O’Sullivan and World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn because of the increased number of snooker events in the upcoming seasons. The Rocket felt that the
players cannot spare time for their friends and families.
At the end of this tussle, the four-time World Snooker Champion decided not to sign the contract with the snooker governing body and participate in selective tournaments because he wanted to spend time with his family. Meanwhile, O’Sullivan’s compatriot
and his opponent in the 2012 World Snooker Championship, Ali Carter has also backed his opinion to play in selective tournaments.
While speaking to BBC Sport, Carter said, “But the way the tour is structured you get penalised if you don't go to nearly every event because Barry decided to put ranking points in almost every event. The way the game is going, playing every weekend doesn't
suit me one bit, like it doesn't suit Ronnie.”
The Captain added, “He doesn't want to be playing every other week and neither do I. I just don't want to be doing it. It's going back to the pro-am days now playing best of sevens. It's difficult because snooker players have always done what they've wanted
to do.”
The snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) announced the addition of the new snooker tournaments during the 2012 World Snooker Championship which was not welcomed by many leading cueman like Ronnie O’Sullivan
and the former four-time World Snooker Championship winner John Higgins.
Carter had a convincing finish in the last snooker season and after winning a couple of minor ranking tournaments during his run, O’Sullivan made his way into the final encounter of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. He was defeated at the hands of the
Rocket. Carter will now enter the new season with new aims and determination.
He will begin his new season campaign with the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event from June 25 at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China. It will be interesting to see what impact Carter will have as he will be looking to improve his performance from the last
snooker season.
