Ali Carter believes 2011 Snooker World Cup will bring surprise results at World Trade Centre
Essex’ Ali Carter will be representing England along with Mark Selby at the 2011 Snooker World Cup, starting from July 11 to 17 at the World Trade Centre in Bangkok. Carter believes the format of
the PTT-EGAT 2011 Snooker World Cup will feature a surprise winner in the end, as it gives equal opportunity to all teams playing in the tournament.
Carter and Selby will represent team England at the arena and they are drawn against Brazil, India, Belgium and North Ireland. The group matches look easy as both cuemen are a class above compared
to the players from other countries of their group.
However, the real test of their skills will be seen in the knockout rounds where they might face Mark Williams, Ding Junhui, Neil Robertson, John Higgins and Matthew Stevens. Carter has never played
in any team event so the world cup will be totally new experience for him.
While speaking to the local media, The Captain, Carter said, "It's a new format for all of us. I've never played doubles with alternate shots before and it will take some getting used to. You might
see some surprise results. It's exciting to be playing in a team event as it's something I've never done before. You don't want to let your opponent down."
He added, "England, Scotland, Wales and China are going to be the favourites but there are a lot of other teams with a chance. Mark Allen and Gerard Greene for Northern Ireland is a strong team because
they are both great potters and that's what you need in short matches."
The world number six believes he has got a very good partner in Mark Selby and together they can turn the tables in their favour. Selby has a strong track record too in the last snooker season and
his playing style makes him a difficult opponent to play against.
Carter, on the other hand, did not have a good time in Asia but last year he clinched the Shanghai Masters title beating Jamie Burnett in the final. He reckons he has got a bit of confidence now to
play in Asia and hopes for a better game in the event.
