Ali Carter books second round spot beating Mark Davis: 2012 World Snooker Championship
England’s Ali Carter grabbed an easy victory over the compatriot, Mark Davis by the score line of 10-2 in the opening round match of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The clash seemed a piece of cake for the Essex
cueman as he cruised into the match victory quite easily.
Despite the fact that Carter suffered from Crohn’s Disease in the second half of the recent snooker season, he played with a lot of ease against Davis.
Carter was not able to perform according to the expectations from the start of the recent snooker season because of the disease. He began the season with Players Tour Championship (PTC) and reached the third round where he was defeated at the hands of Robbie
Williams of England by the score line of 2-4.
The Englishman fought back into the game and played stunningly in the 2011 Wuxi Classic to hit the final stage where he faced the World Number one Mark Selby. Playing Mark Selby especially in a final is never easy but the Captain did trouble the Leicester
potter during the final battle.
However, he was unable to beat him and tumbled down by the score line of 7-9. After that, Carter could not perform well in the season and failed to win any major or minor ranking snooker event. Nevertheless, he has had a superb start and he feels he can
play well in the coming games.
While speaking to World Snooker after his victory, Carter said, “I'm pleased with the way I played, Mark obviously felt under the weather, but it was quite a good performance. It's only the first round so I'm not getting too excited but it's job done.”
He added, “I have cut out dairy and wheat, and it is quite difficult carrying a lunch box around when I go into restaurants, I feel a bit of an idiot! After three weeks I'm starting to feel better every day. Hopefully that can help me. I've worked harder
for this tournament than I have for any other this season because I felt better and felt like practising.”
Carter will be playing against the former World Snooker Championship runner up, England’s Judd Trump in the second round clash at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
