Ali Carter defeats Stephen Maguire to book final spot: 2012 World Snooker Championship
World Snooker fans present at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England’s Ali Carter successfully booked his place in the final encounter of the 2012 World Snooker Championship after beating the Scotsman Stephen Maguire by the score line of 17-12 in the
penultimate stage of the mega event. Carter will face the former three-time World Snooker Champion, compatriot Ronnie O’Sullivan in the ultimate battle.
The first two sessions of the game were dominated by the Captain as he cruised into the match lead by the score line of 14-10 at the end of first day proceedings. The clash seemed a bit tussling because Maguire was showing a tendency to hit back into the
game and unsettle Carter. However, the final sessions of the game were not according to Maguire’s expectations.
The second day proceedings began with a tremendous frame win of Carter as he spent 46 minutes on the baize and moved one frame up at 15-10. Maguire clinched two frames to move up at 16-12 but still the Scotsman needed over the top performance to unnerve
his opponent. Nevertheless, Maguire was not able to hit back into the game and cleared the table in the 19th frame and ensured his victory by 17-12.
While speaking to World Snooker in his post match interview, Carter said, “I'm not just happy being in the final. We'll see what happens. I feel totally different to the way I did four years ago. I was mentally knackered then. I wasn't getting to bed until
about 3 in the morning.”
Maguire, on the other hand, added, “I didn't give him enough respect. I didn't play safe at all in the first session. There were at least eight frames I lost on the colours or the last red. I took so many hits I felt like a punch bag out there. It starts
to hurt after a while when you get so close.”
Carter will face the Rocket in the final of the event. Both potters have played against each other a few times before and know the abilities of each other. It will be exciting to see Carter take on O’Sullivan as both are tremendous players and the fans will
be looking forward to this match-up.
