Ali Carter ends Jamie Jones’ Crucible hopes: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Former World Snooker Championship runner-up, England’s Ali Carter displayed classy snooker skills at the Crucible Theatre arena against the Welshman Jamie Jones and defeated him by a close score line of 13-11 in the quarter-final clash of the 2012 Word Snooker
Championship. Jones gave a tough time in the early sessions of the game but Captain Carter dominated in the final session to clinch the game.
The Welshman fought back in the second session of the game to unsettle his opponent. At the end of two sessions, Carter was leading 9-7. The game was crucial at this point and it seemed the clash will be tussling in the third frame as Jones was looking quite
focused and determined. The third session began with Jones’ impressive frame victory in the 17th frame to move one frame up at 9-8.
Carter was under immense pressure because Jones was advancing beautifully in the third frame. However, he stayed focused on his game and was able to add two more frames in his score line after clinching 18th and 19th frame to extend
his lead to 11-8. The Welsh potter came back with three consecutive set wins to reach 12-11. Carter needed one frame only to claim the victory which he took easily and booked his place in the semi-finals.
While speaking to World Snooker, Carter said, “I should have won 13-8, I had a good chance to win it but couldn't get over the line for whatever reason, everything that could go wrong did go wrong. What an incredible performance [from Jamie] to get through
to a quarter-final and make so many century breaks, he's an awesome player, gutsy as you like.”
Jones, on the other hand, added, “Over the 24 frames I think Ali was the better player. I scored and potted well but my safety was abysmal, his was good and that was the difference.”
Carter will next meet the Scotsman Stephen Maguire in the semi-final stage of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. The match up seems a tussling game as both potters are in good shape. It will be exciting to see how Carter manages to carry his winning momentum
forward in the tournament.
