Ali Carter hails Cao Yupeng for his good performance in 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Despite the fact the former two-time World Snooker Championship runner up, England’s Ali Carter was in good shape especially after finishing the last season campaign convincingly, still he was unable to beat a mere rookie from China, Cao Yupeng.
He played at his best against the Chinese cueman in the first round encounter of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open at the Bendigo Stadium arena but it was not enough to topple him down.
On the other hand, the Chinese potter showed some real talent and pushed Carter to his limits where he had no choice but to accept his defeat. The Chinese potter dominated him from the very start of the match and grabbed a 4-0 lead at the end of the first
session which put the Captain under immense pressure as he was totally out of clues.
However, the Englishman got himself together and fought back to unsettle his opponent. Carter claimed three consecutive frame victories to show Yupeng that he had not given up. At the end of the seventh frame, the scores were 4-3 with Yupeng in the lead.
The eighth frame proved to be the last set as the Chinese cueman breezed into the victory to put an end to Carter’s hopes to move forward in the event.
Carter had no clue during the game on how to stop Yupeng’s game despite his attempt to counter. He was quite amused by his performance and after the match he appreciated the way Yupeng played against him.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Carter said, “Cao Yupeng, all credit to him, he started off very well but as soon as I put him under pressure he couldn't pot a ball. So if I could've carried on, and just found ten per cent of how I can play,
I probably would've come out the winner. Even at 4-0 down I thought that if I can find something then I might be alright.”
Yupeng performed impressively in the qualifying session of the event and made his way into the first round. In the past season, he surged into the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship where he defeated the Northern Irishman Mark Allen by
10-6 to prove his talent.
