Ali Carter hails Mark Selby for his outstanding performance against Belgium: 2011 World Cup Snooker
Former world snooker championship runner-up, Ali Carter has appreciated his partner Mark Selby’s performance in their second clash of 2011 World Cup Snooker against Belgium, which Carter and Selby won 3-2, after a tough fight at Bangkok Convention Centre,
Thailand.
However, despite their two victories, the duo have tumbled down at number three in Group C with seven points, but their result doesn’t throw them out of favourites’ category as they still have two matches to play. The pair is likely to grab the top spot
and surge into the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Looking at individual performances from both cueists, the pair played tremendously in their opening match on Tuesday, July 12 when they defeated Brazil easily by the score line of 4-1. Selby and Carter took their individual matches against Fabio Luersen
and Noel Rodrigues but lost the Brazilian pair in doubles competition.
In their second clash against Belgium on Wednesday, Carter couldn’t play up to the expectations, as he lost his individual clashes against Bjorn Haneveer and Luca Brecel. Selby, on the other hand, played outstandingly and grabbed individual matches and also
did his part in the doubles. After their victory in second match, Carter hailed Selby for his terrific performance in the match.
Speaking to reporters after the match, the 31-year-old said, “I didn't perform well at all, but I didn't get a chance in my first match. But all credit to Mark and he played really well. Hopefully if he doesn't have a good match then I will step up myself.
I haven't felt that well all day and my guts have been bad and my Crohn's Disease has me feeling lethargic.”
He added, “It's frustrating and it's been bad for three or four days with my stomach just feeling bloated and it's uncomfortable bending over the table. Today I wasn't in my best form and I scored about eight but one positive is I can't get any worse.”
The English pair will next face India in their third round-robin formatted group match on Thursday, July 14 at Bangkok Convention Centre, Thailand.
