Ali Carter hopeful to improve his ranking in 2012-13 Snooker Season run – Snooker News
Last snooker season was not a convincing finish for the 2012 World Snooker Championship runner up, England’s Ali Carter because he was unable to win any major ranking snooker tournament during his 2011-12 Snooker Season run. Icing on the cake, he crashed
out in the opening rounds of many major ranking snooker tournaments which dropped him down in the rankings.
However, reaching the final encounter of the 2012 World Snooker Championship was indeed a tremendous achievement for the Englishman which gave little support to his ranking points and he was able to save his spot in the Top 20. Right now he is placed on
the 17th rank because he did not grab any noticeable title in his previous season campaign.
However, despite the fact that he is currently the World Number 17 potter, he will play in major ranking snooker events because a couple of players who were in Top 16 are absent this season.
The former seven-time World Snooker Champion Scotland’s Stephen Hendry has retired from the game and the four-time World Snooker Championship winner Ronnie O’Sullivan has not signed the contract of the new season with the World Snooker. Thus, he will not
play in the season until he signs the central contract. Carter has a golden opportunity to improve his ranking by performing well in the season and he is aiming for that as well.
While speaking to the BBC Sport, Carter said, “It was very disappointing to lose (in World Championship final) but it's put a few ranking points in the bank. Hopefully I can get myself higher up the rankings.”
The Captain further added, “I still feel if I'm playing well. I've got a lot to offer in the game and I can win some tournaments. I'd be turning my back on that if I quit.”
Carter will begin his new season campaign with his participation in the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament with the aim to collect some ranking points to get back into the Top 16. It will be interesting to see what impact Carter will have during the new
season as he will be looking to build up some much needed confidence in his performance.
