Alia Atkinson grabs Women’s 100m breaststroke gold – 2013 Arena Grand Prix
Alia Atkinson of South Florida Aquatics grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on opening day of the 2013 Arena Grand Prix in Colorado, USA, on Thursday, February 14.
The 24-year-old Atkinson stayed in a comfortable lead over her opponents and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal. With her commendable pace, she remained clearly ahead of her following swimmer and stepped on the podium for the title.
With her astonishing speed, Atkinson remained in a half body length lead over her closest competitor and surfaced on the wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 08.51 seconds.
The champion was followed by Katie Meili of Unattached-MR, who stayed 0.49 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 09.00 seconds for silver medal.
Meili was traced by Rebecca Ejdervik of Sweden, who stayed only 0.49 seconds apart and secured third position of the race by producing an effort of 1 minute and 09.49 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Margarethe Hummel of Germany, who remained full body length behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 10.30 seconds.
Fifth fastest position of the event was secured by Martha McCabe of Ubc Dolphins, who stayed 0.46 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and settled on the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 10.76 seconds.
McCabe was chased by Raminta Dvariskyte of Southern Methodists, who stayed only 0.19 seconds behind and posted an effort of 1 minute and 10.95 seconds for sixth place.
Dvariskyte was trailed by Kennedy Lohman of Lakeside Swim Team, who stayed 1.45 seconds slower from her former finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 12.40 seconds for seventh place.
Last position of the event was obtained by Emily Kopas of Davie Nadadores, who was1.11 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 13.51 seconds.
In addition, the arena appreciated notable efforts of all participants in her respective events while the position holders received medals and accolades at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
