Alia Atkinson secures Women’s 100m breaststroke gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale
Alia Atkinson of South Florida Aquatics secured gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, July 13.
The crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Atkinson, who showed no mercy to her challengers and paved her way to the medal rostrum for the crown of the event.
The 23-year-old Atkinson demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the double lap breaststroke discipline as she rushed her way towards the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 1 minute and 09.59 seconds.
Gold medallist was trailed by Julie A Stupp of Paq, who stayed 2.01 seconds apart and occupied silver medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 11.60 seconds.
Second position holder was chased by Emily M Kopas of Davie Nadadores, who stayed 0.24 seconds behind and accomplished third position of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 11.84 seconds.
Bronze medallist was chased by Sarra Lajnef of Gator Swim Club, who stayed 0.68 seconds apart and completed her race in a time of 1 minute and 12.52 seconds for fourth position.
Subsequently, Lajnef remained three body lengths ahead of Daniell Gordon of Julington Creek, who proved her mettle for fifth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 15.65 seconds for fifth position.
The 15-year-old Gordon was chased by Lia N Lombardi of Area Tallahassee, who stayed a half body length behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 16.08 second for sixth position.
Seventh finest spot of the race was secured by Ksen Golovkina of T2 Aquatics-FL, who stayed 0.13 seconds behind and ended her swim in a time 1 minute and 16.21 seconds.
Golovkina was followed by Alyssa M Carle of Adirondack Aquatics, who stayed 0.74 seconds away from her former finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 16.95 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Atkinson expressed happiness over her victory in the 100m discipline and stated that she will work hard and try to achieve the same at forthcoming swimming events.
