Aliaksandra Sasnovich ousts wild card entrant Hannah King in Girls’ Singles 1st round – US Open 2011
Clashing against each other in first round match of the US Open 2011, Girls’ Singles event were Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich and the American wild card entrant Hannah King. On hard court 13 of the USTA Billie Jean King National
Tennis Center the two battled it out like old war warriors. However, only Aliaksandra Sasnovich remained standing after one hour and forty minutes with a straight sets victory of 7-5, 6-3.
As the two players walked on the court, the crowd cheered for their home girl King and after winning the pitch, she opened the score board at 1-0 by smashing an ace at 40-30. In the subsequent seven games, the two kept winning
on their serves but during the ninth game Sasnovich was first to break. However, not wanting the Belarusian to take the upper hand, King broke back and equalized the score at 5-5. Sasnovich then again went on to breaking her opponent in the eleventh game to
an en-route victory in the twelfth by holding her serve.
Although, King had hit 59% of her first serves on target, she was unable to win a good score in her first and second serves. Mean while, Sasnovich had restricted her double faults, unforced errors and with a difference of six points
bagged the set.
The second was also opened by King and both the players won on alternate sets until the first three games. However, King broke first and took the lead of 3-1 in the fourth game. At this point Sasnovich was two breaks down but was
quick to realize that and broke back in the fifth game and by the sixth she had held her serve to equalize the score board. Although, Sasnovich was slow to pick up, she went on to break her adversary in the seventh game. After holding her serve in the eighth
game, she was waiting to win the match point on King’s serve in the ninth game and pouncing at the first opportunity Sasnovich broke king for the last time to conquer King in an easy victory of 6-3.
Amidst the second set both the challengers had committed four unforced errors and four double faults each but because of capitalizing on 75% of break points Sasnovich was able to save a spot in the second round where she will be
facing compatriot and wild card entrant Hayley Carter.
