Alicia Coutts wins the Women’s 200m Individual Medley title: Mare Nostrum, Barcelona
Australian swimming sensation, Alicia Coutts won the Women’s 200m Individual Medley crown with a record time of 2 minutes and 09.68 seconds in Barcelona, Spain, on June 5.
Placed second in the Women’s 200m IM was three-time world champion, Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Australia with a time of 2 minutes and 12.55 seconds and Olympic silver medallist, Keri Anne Payne finished third in a time of 2 minutes and 13.99 seconds.
After capturing the Women’s 200m IM title, the feelings of delight and enjoyment on the face of Alicia Coutts were quite unexplainable. She also snagged her second title of the championship in the Women’s 100m freestyle event with a sterling time of 54.27
seconds. Meanwhile, Sarah Sjostrom claimed silver medal in the corresponding meet with a time of 55.00 seconds and Angie Bainbridge wound up third and secured bronze title with a finishing time of 55.09 seconds.
Despite these sensational performances in the Women’s 200m IM and 100m freestyle finals, Coutts is determined to vie at the Shanghai FINA World Championships with great diligence and dedication. Being a swimmer, Alicia has conquered many competitive swimming
events before.
Her most remarkable swimming performance was seen at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010, where she nabbed five gold medals in the Women’s 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 200m IM, 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley events.
Besides, she won two silver medals in the Women’s 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley finals at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine. Coutts has no Olympic gold title in her medal tally, so she is desperate to win her first ever Olympic gold medal
at the upcoming Olympic Games in London, 2012.
Meanwhile, the Women’s 100m breast-stroke crown was clinched by Jennie Johansson with a winning time of 1 minute and 08.45 seconds and Evgeny Lagunov nabbed the Men's 50m freestyle title after he touched the finishing blockade and ended his swim with a victorious
time of 22.51 seconds. Boglarka Kapas topped the Women’s 400m freestyle final with a commanding time of 4 minutes and 08.22 seconds.
