Alicia Mathieu and Yoelvis Pedraza dominate in Gainesville: Day one – USA Swimming Sectional 2011
Day one of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectional got-off to a strong start with the impressive swims of Alicia Mathieu and Yoelvis Pedraza at Gainesville, Florida, on Thursday, July 7.
Alicia Mathieu secured the gold medal in the Women’s 1500m freestyle, whereas, Yoelvis Pedraza won the Men’s 800m freestyle meet in scintillating fashion.
Mathieu came out strongly and captured the Women’s 1500m freestyle crown with a sterling time of 16 minutes and 33.55 seconds. After securing the gold title in the 1500m freestyle, Alicia was immensely pleased and satisfied with her individual performance
in the championship.
Andreina Pinto of Gator secured silver medal with a time of 16 minutes and 44.91 seconds, while Fort Lauderdale Aquatics’ Briana Emig earned the bronze title after she touched the finishing wall in a time of 16 minutes and 48.55 seconds.
Danielle Valley wound up fourth in 17 minutes and 06.45 seconds. Damaris Iriondo was placed fifth in a time of 17 minutes and 09.46 seconds, whereas, Kathryn Woolbright settled sixth in 17 minutes and 11.27 seconds. Taylor Katz earned seventh place honours
in 17 minutes and 15.89 seconds and Haley Fournier finished eighth in a time of 17 minutes and 18.39 seconds.
In the second event, Yoelvis Pedraza clinched the Men’s 800m freestyle crown with a winning time of 8 minutes and 14.26 seconds. Nicholas Ankosko of Scarlet earned the silver title in 8 minutes and 20.14 seconds, whereas, Carlos Omana of Metro grabbed the
bronze medal with a time of 8 minutes and 23.71 seconds.
After securing the gold medal in the 800m freestyle event, Pedraza was really excited and pleased with his individual performance in the USA Swimming Sectional meet.
William Silva of Gator was placed fourth in 8 minutes and 24.68 seconds. Alejandro Gomez wound up fifth in 8 minutes and 27.13 seconds, while Ryan Rosenbaum settled sixth in a time of 8 minutes and 28.94 seconds. Alexander Katz finished seventh in 8 minutes
and 29.22 seconds, whereas, Michael Curley rounded out the top eight in 8 minutes and 29.67 seconds.
