Alicia from US team and the chinese gymnasts?

Why are people blaming US's lost on the chinese? I've read replies like "blah blah....Yea Alicia fell..US lost; china's people look like 10".

Let's think about what these people are saying, instead of their grudge because they look like 10. Can you lose because they look like 10? Would them looking like 10 make you fall?

So why are people saying these things? It just seems so illogical to me.

  1. This question doesn't make much sense. But what NBC reporters said was that the Chinese started out with a base score of slightly above two. And that is what the United States lost by.

Yes - Alicia's fall contributed to the United States' loss but it was not the sole cause of it. Shawn and Nastia both stepped out during their floor exercise.

The Chinese were also excellent, aside from a few errors on beam.

Wins and losses are always caused by a combination of things - not just one.

  2. Because that's just how people are. People who want US to win are going to be mad that the chinese beat them, esp by people who look like 10. And guess what? It doesn't even matter if they're 9 or not - it doesn't matter where the truth lies! It's an alternative, people are going to like that better than "the US lost because the team made mistakes."

Only they forget the fact that the chinese generally dominates gymnastics though.

For the record, all the other answers don't make sense. The question was "People are blaming the chinese for the US lost. Even if they were really 10, is this something to blame for Alicia's fall?"

    No!

It probably just hurt the Americans that they got beaten by a bunch of kids though

  3. well for one thing, younger gymnasts DO have an advantage.  I know that sounds crazy but think about it.  If they are shorter and smaller, then compared to them, the floor exercise floor is a lot bigger.  Notice how they had feet and feet of space between them and the line after landing their tumbling runs, b/c they are so tiny, while the US women couldn't keep inside the lines.

Not only that but being smaller and younger, they also have an advantage because their center of gravity is lower so it's easier to do gymnastics.

Plus, as Bela Karolyi was saying, younger gymnasts are more fearless.  They didn't feel as much pressure which made it easier to perform.

So china using younger gymnasts while everyone else had to choose older ones, that definitely can put them at an advantage.

Now I understand your question better though.  No, them looking 10 is not the reason why Alicia fell.  But it's still pretty messed up if China is cheating at the Olympics.

Oh yeah, AND, Alicia falling is not the ONLY reason why China won.  Many believe that the age thing gave them an unfair advantage.

  4. What's the alternative? Accept you were beaten justly by a superior team? That isn't the American way baby!

  5. I don't think that has anything to do with it really. The Chinese girls were taken from their families at the age of 3, simply to train for the Olympics. They see their parents once or twice a year. That is all they do, basically, is train. They look younger simply because Asian people typically do age slower than Americans. It's not an insult at all, really. Second of all, the excessive training probably stunted their growth a little bit. Shawn Johnson is only 4'8 as well, and no one says anything about her.

Besides, there were also assumptions that the judging was rigged. Since the Chinese team received higher scores with some mistakes, than the Americans did, with mistakes. They also had younger girls competing. Plus, the Chinese won by 2 points, which was the base that they started with. But who am I to say anything.. I don't know. I was just listening in on the news=)

Alicia carried her team emotionally this entire time, and let the nerves get to her. She's older, and more experienced than most of the other girls on her team, and fully realized what the competition meant to her. That made her even more pressured, which ended making her fall. The poor thing. I wanted to run up and hug her. I still think she, and the rest of the team, is amazing. I am very proud=)

  6. your question states because they look like 10 the question should be are they 10?  A gymnast body can go through so much trauma in 3 to six years from sprained ankles to just physical stress that it would be an  advantage to have someone younger. The blame game however would at this point be useless. What can you prove?

  7. Why did you post this question?

  8. shouldn't u be on myspace or something

  9. No, listen...it's like this...

Rules are rules.  If they don't enforce the rules or if people DO cheat, it compromises the prestige and reputation of the Olympics.

And if they look the other way or bend a rule for one, well, where should it stop?  You know, are you going to bend the rule for EVERYONE then?  In just one sport...no...not fair..have to ignore the rule in all the sports.  See, it is a slippery slope and it ruins the integrity of the Olympics to allow cheating.

That's why they do all the blood testing for doping, etc.

If you get a question wrong on a test because you ignored the directions, but on someone else's, they are given full credit for that same answer and get a better grade, is that right?  No.
