Alien/Paranormal experience?

Question

I awoke tonight with my eyes closed. There was a blinding bright white light in my face. It was so bright. I was afraid to open my eyes because of the unknown. I lay in my bed for a few minutes but what seemed hours. I could hear the faint whisper of a thousand voices trying to speak over each other.. so faint. Finally the light faded and darkness resumed. I gathered my courage and jumped out of bed and chased after the dim glow of the light moving into my brother's room. I stumbled into his room unable to speak/breath because of fear. I finally asked him if he had seen it and he said "yes". I ran to the other side of his room to his open window facing the back yard. The clouds in the sky were illuminated like a strike of lightning in the distance. There seemed to be a light with a trailing cloud behind it flying straight up into the sky at an incredible speed, faster than anything could travel. The night sky faded to blackness. What did I just experience here?

I don't know. But someone close to me shared a very similar experience with his cousin, only they were not asleep when it began. It was years ago now, but to this day his cousin refuses to talk about it, and I'm one of the few people that knows. I think there are lots of unexplainable things out there, and not being being able to explain them doesn't mean make them less real. But I don't dwell on them either.
