Randy Pitchford, Gearbox’s CEO, has expressed his fondness of the Wii U and claims it opens up a new “opportunities” that the current-generation of consoles cannot.
Nintendo, plan on keeping the trend of being the first out of the block, when it comes to new hardware, in the video game market. They captured a considerable portion of the market with their early launch of the Nintendo Wii, a move that had both Microsoft
and Sony struggling to recover.
This time around Nintendo seems to miles ahead of its competitors after originally unveiling their new console at E3 last year. The platform developer now plans on following that up by demoing the console at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo as well.
A number of publishers and developers have already declared their openness and willingness to develop for the console, after hesitating on the limited scope of the original Wii.
Ubisoft are looking to bring Assassin’s Creed 3 to the console and Gearbox is also working on Aliens: Colonial Marines for release on the Wii U. The CEO of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, is excited by the prospects of the new piece of hardware and how it changes
the conventional approach to gaming.
He said, “The Wii U version has so much more to offer... no other platform can do what the Wii U can do. If you love 360 (Xbox) games, you are not used to being in a world where you have this new interface.”
Mr. Pitchford was of course talking about the Wii U’s tablet controller, which along with the buttons and dual joysticks has a touch screen interface as well. A move, which if one was to believe internet rumours, Microsoft is also planning on implementing
with the Xbox 720.
However, Mr. Pitchford also pointed out that there was more to come from Nintendo and that Gearbox was fully committed to the console when he said, “I think it will not be too long (before) Nintendo opens up their kimono a little bit more about that platform
and where it is going, we will be there right with them talking about how Aliens is using it.”
