Alika Lew-Koga earns Girls 100yard backstroke title – High School State Championships, San Francisco
Alika Lew-Koga of LOW earned gold medal of the Girls 100yard backstroke at the 2012 High School State Championships in San Francisco, California on Tuesday, May 1.
Lew-Koga devastated hopes of her competitors as she proved her eligibility for gold medal of the event. With her invincible efforts, she remained considerably ahead of her challengers and emerged on the finishing end for gold medal.
She continued her smothering efforts and gathered gold medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 03.04 seconds.
She was followed by her team-member, Asia Azus, who remained 1.96 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing blockade for silver medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 05.00 seconds.
Third spot of the race was obtained by her teammate, Stephanie Li, who remained 2.61 seconds behind her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 07.61 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Jenny Szeto of WASH, who stayed almost four seconds apart and settled on the wall as fourth best finisher with the timing of 1 minute and 11.04 seconds.
Szeto was trailed by Joyce Sun of LOW, who occupied fifth position of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 13.65 seconds.
In the meantime, Bryan Zhong of WASH upset his competitors in the Boys 100yard backstroke.
Zhong gave no chance to his challengers to retaliate and finished his swim in first place by producing a time of 56.56 seconds.
He was followed by Joseph Satariano of WASH, who was nearly 1.40 seconds behind and reached the victory stand for silver medal by posting a time of 58.09 seconds.
Satariano remained 0.44 seconds slower from Matthew Kim and ended third by clocking an effort of 58.53 seconds.
Similarly, Kim was followed by his teammate, Brandon Wong, who snared fourth fastest spot of the race by ending his swim with the timing of 1 minute and 02.23 seconds.
In addition, the crowd appreciated notable efforts of all participants in the 100yard events while the position holders collected their awards and accolades after the session.
