Alisher Rahimov ready to take on Ji-Hoon Kim in a non-title 10-round bout – Boxing News
Alisher Rahimov, the current WBO Asia Pacific and WBC Asian Boxing Council lightweight champion, will enter the ring to take on Korean proud, Ji-Hoon Kim, the current South Korea lightweight champion, in a 10-round bout which will be held on May 25, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be set up at Ameristar Casino situated in Saint Charles, Missouri, United States and the above duo will headline the pay-per-view. The event is being promoted by the duo of Art Pelullo of Banner Promotions and Steven Smith of Rumble
Time Promotions.
The showdown will be co-headlined by the non-title eight-round bout between Todd Brown and Chuck Dillard. Alisher, 34, has been in a total 23 bouts and boasts an undefeated streak.
The Uzbek proud has never lost even a single bout and has collected 12 of his wins by knocking the opponent out cold. As far as the stats or resume is concerned, Rahimov, well known as the ‘Ali’, has a substantial upper hand over his Korean opponent Kim.
Ji-Hoon, 25, is a surging young pugilist who has been in a total 30 bouts. Kim has emerged victorious in a total 23 bouts and has nailed 18 of his opponents by knockout. The young lad has collected seven losses as well which is evident of the fact that he
does not possesses a flawless win ratio and lacks certain details of the sport.
In addition, Kim has just initiated a two-bout win streak after two consecutive losses. Also known as the ‘Volcano’, Ji-Hoon recently made an impressive comeback on the win track and nailed Dong-Hyuk Kim to grab the country’s apex divisional gold.
Kim, despite having a tarnished resume, has certain advantages in his gear. The first and foremost facet that will aid the Korean lad is substantial height advantage. Kim can throw his jabs from a considerable distance while keeping himself out of Alisher’s
range.
Rahimov and his trainer understand this aspect. It is this reason why Paul Lee, manager Alisher, in a recent media interaction, stated, “Rahimov is a good technician and has a lot of experience. He’s 36 years old, but he is still strong. However, Ji-Hoon
has taller height and longer arms. He has a physical advantage and he’s going to use it.”
The bout will be a tough one as Alisher will have his undefeated streak and respect on the line whereas Kim, on the other hand, has the technical advantages that if capitalised well might help him grab a huge win. At the moment, the odds are in favour of
Alisher who will definitely move up further in the world rankings if he nails Kim.
