Alison Lee in quarterfinals of US Girls Junior Golf Championship
Alison Lee, the talented US golfer, is in the quarterfinals of the 64th U.S. Girls' Junior Championship.
Lee has been the surprise of the Championship. Experts were pegging her as a second round dropout with an average performance throughout her stay at the event. When she managed to win her qualifying round match, experts were just waiting for her defeat in
the initial stages.
Lee defied all odds and steadily rose up the match tree. Her first match was against the Maddie Szeryk. Lee played a great game and defeated Szeryk with a 152 to 157 score. Her second game was against the Australian player Su-Hyun Oh.
As expected, the match between Lee and Oh was exciting. Both players did their best and the match came dangerously close to a tie. However, Lee proved to be the better player with a score of 5 and 4 in her favour.
Her last game was against the PRC player, Yu Liu. This was a fiercely contested match and both players were evenly matched. After a nail-biting game, Lee managed to win with a narrow margin of 2 and 1 in her favour.
This win has taken Alison Lee into the quarterfinals. She will face Lauren Diaz-Yi, another American player. Diaz-Yi is an upcoming young golfer who has managed to hold her own against the players so far.
Diaz-Yi has played great against her opponents in all her games. It was apparent from her first win against Haley Mills that she will be a tough player to beat. She won against Mills with a score of 4 and 3.
In her last game, Diaz-Yi faced Alexandra Kaui. Both players had earlier wins and were confident of their game.
As predicted, the match was exciting with both Diaz-Yi and Kaui bent on securing a place in quarterfinals. Diaz-Yi won by a narrow 3 and 2.
So far, Diaz-Yi has demonstrated great fortitude. She has beaten all the odds and is now in the final rounds of the Championship. What remains to be seen is how she will hold against players like Lydia Ko and the defending champion Ariya Jutanugarn.
