Alistair Overeem, definitely the man who axed his own prolific career – UFC Feature
Alistair Overeem, the man who nailed Brock Lesnar in his debut Ultimate Fighting Championship bout, who rattled the apex mixed martial art promotion by his explosive kick which injected waves of pain in Lesnar’s right ribs and echoed in the whole heavyweight
division, is currently undergoing a series of events that can truly be dubbed as ‘acts of a champion that led to his downfall’.
Overeem is considered as one of the most powerful, brutal and power game brawler in the whole of UFC. His height alone when combined with the massive mass can intimidate even the best men easily, the reason why he was put up against Junior Dos Santos, the
current UFC heavyweight champion, in his upcoming engagement.
All these fact and praises kept aside, Alistair committed a series of mistakes that he will certainly repent over the period of time and most probably for the whole of his life. After capturing media’s attention by grabbing an impressive win over Brock,
the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion again became the apple of media’s eye by being accused to have used prohibited performance enhancing drugs.
The issue became controversial when Overeem also known as the ‘Demolition Man’ failed a pre-bout drug test. Overeem was accused of having illegal amount of testosterone in his urine sample, a matter that later on, after the passage of few days, witnessed
Overeem stand in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
The decision came and Overeem was suspended for nine months along with the cancellation of his licence. The punishment, as per my point of view, is definitely not in accordance with the normal rules and procedures followed by NSAC.
As per the rules, a brawler is suspended for almost one-year but in Overeem’s case the suspension is not more than nine-months. In addition, the arguments put forth by Alistair’s lawyers are bit clumsy. As per their explanation, Overeem ‘did not know’ that
he is being injected by a serum that will enhance his testosterone levels. Who takes a prescription without knowing what it is for.
Even with this argument the burden of proof laid on the shoulders of Overeem and his squad but still they got away by no monetary penalties in fact with just suspension and license cancellation. All these aspects apart, Overeem will definitely face one most
difficult problem in the upcoming months – how to face Dana White.
Dana White, UFC president is notorious for having a stiff stance over the issue of use and abuse of illegal performance enhancing drugs. In this scenario things get worse as one night before the drug test Overeem and Dana, who were considered fast friends
(before the sad event), met at a dinner together and talked about the UFC 146 engagement.
At that moment, Overeem hid the fact that he has used some testosterone to recuperate from some ailing problems. Afterwards, Alistair gets punished, in a matter that irks Dana big time, and in a scenario where he lies.
Well, it is obvious at least Overeem will face problems in making a comeback since in a recent interview Dana had already made it clear that he will not support Overeem at all adding that he lied to him and it’s not good to lie to a man with whom your doing
business.
Dana took one step ahead and even said that he expected a one-year suspension instead of a nine-month. One thing is for sure, Alistair can definitely not exploit the special consideration formerly showered by Dana and his organisation and he will face difficulty
in making a comeback as he has axed and shortened his own career since he was brought in to UFC to capture the European and especially the American market as he is considered a hero.
However, Alistair has tarnished his image by becoming a man who uses PED’s to perform well and therefore does not have the ability to enter the octagon for a fair square bout. Above all, questions have also started to pop out regarding his huge muscular
body. Well there might be a chance that the massive body is a result of some kind of steroid? Who knows.
In a nutshell, Overeem has damaged his own career by being irresponsible in using stuff that everyone knows is prohibited. He has literally severed the feelings of all those people who love him for what he did best and will now stay away from the octagon
till the end of this year.
UFC fanatics should realise that with every passing day he is aging and being kept away for nine-months from the octagon, certainly rusts one’s ability and resilience and therefore it can be said with conformity that Alistair, if allowed by Dana, cannot
make a pompous comeback.
