Alistair Overeem denied fighting by The Nevada State Athletic Commission – UFC News
Alistair Overeem’s request for obtaining a fight license, for his upcoming bout against Junior dos Santos at UFC 146 on May 26 in Las Vegas, has been denied. The Nevada State Athletic Commission unanimously denied the request on Tuesday. As of now, Alistair
will not be able to fight in Las Vegas for nine months, and only after that, he will be eligible to reapply for the license.
It should be noted here that even though Overeem’s license request has been declined, he has not faced any suspensions. On the ruling, President of UFC Dana White said that the organisation will honour the decision.
Overeem, who was devastated by the decision, commented, “I gave up the title fight because I think my position (was no longer) credible. Believe me when I tell you the title fight is my dream. This was going to be the crown of my career. I'm giving it up
to take a couple steps back and prove that I'm a clean fighter. I think the most important thing is to establish that it wasn't used with the intent of performance enhancing. I have had legal issues with my former management for the past six months. They have
done everything they can to harass me.”
In addition, Overeem revealed that he did not intake any performance enhancing drugs on purpose but his doctor had injected him with it. Keith Krizer, Executive Director of UFC, revealed that all six fighters were informed in advance about the drug test.
He added that Overeem did not really bother about and now he is facing the consequences.
For now, UFC has no other option but to replace Overeem with a similar fighter against Junior dos Santos. Dana White, who had previously expressed his dismay over Overeem’s actions, is now more than ever disheartened since this fight was among the mega-bouts
of UFC for this year. Overeem will have to wait for nine months now to get his title shot against Junior dos Santos in Vegas. However, if the fight is relocated, then possibly he will be allowed to fight for the title.
