Alistair Presnell finishes second at the Miccosukee Championship
Alistair Presnell carded a four-under par 67 in the final round to finish second at the Miccosukee Championship, on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
Entering the last 18 holes of the tournament, the Australian was six strokes behind the overnight leader, Shawn Stefani, and was sharing the second spot on the leaderboard.
After birdying three of the first five holes on the front nine, he gave a hint of challenging the American on the top.
A blemish on the sixth hole shook his scorecard for a while. Yet, he managed to make a comeback by recording birdies on the eighth and the ninth hole.
That was a time when he had only a three-stroke deficit against Stefani. Looking at his good form, it seemed as if he will easily make it to the top till the end of the 72 holes.
However, he failed to keep the momentum going into the back nine and registered only one birdie against a lone bogey.
At the end of the day, he found himself five strokes behind Stefani, who took home his second Web.com Tour title of the season.
Stefani’s first victory came at the Midwest Classic in August, when he outshined Luke List and Russell Henley with a two-stroke margin.
Talking to the Web.com Tour’s official website, Presnell stated that he had complete faith in his game and he tried his best to come close to the top. However, Stefani was too good for him and did not let his wish come true.
"I was thinking the way I started in my mind that it would have been good enough that I might have a chance," Presnell said, " but he had made a couple of good saves and a couple of nice birdies and all in all he was really steady all day”.
“The shots he mis-hit he was able to recover well and he holed some good putts. I just slowed a bit too much on the back nine and made a few too many pars,” added the 33-year-old, whose only victory on the tour came in the 2009 Moonah Classic.
