Aljamaaheer leading with King Charles II win in the Jersey Stakes at Ascot
The Group 3 Jersey Stakes has assembled a massive line-up of twenty-six three-year-old contestants with £39,697 prize money at stake. It will be raced over seven furlongs on Wednesday, 20th June at Ascot.
Richard Hannon and Aidan O’Brien have covered up quite a bit of ground to ensure success on the highly competitive field with a few putting their unbeaten record at risk.
Roger Varian trained three-year-old Aljamaaheer is one of the lightly raced candidates for the race today and has stood out proud twice through the three career outings.
He cleared the maiden on 18th October, 2011 at Yarmouth over six furlongs while riding with Richard Hills. The 5/4 favourite winner led the runner up, Mezzotint, by 1 ¾ lengths.
Dubawi’s chestnut colt’s welcome race of the new season was in the Dubai Duty Free Full Of Surprises Handicap on 20th April at Newbury over seven furlongs. The 5/4 favourite was not the first one to conclude the track distance rather ended fourth on the field of ten.
The race was won by Gregorian while finishing the closest was Tartiflette.
Kelly Nicole foaled did not wait for long to prove himself in the new season too and that reflected through his dominance in the very next race.
Aljamaaheer won the Poptelecom.Co.UK King Charles II Stakes on 19th May at Newmarket over seven furlongs. With Paul Hanagan onboard, he set second the 2/1 favourite of the race, Nile, by one and a half length.
His success in the King Charles II Stakes has surged the hopes of his trainer and has also enhanced his chances for keeping a firm grip on the race today. Winning this is proportionally related to the success rate in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes.
Not only is it one of the most accurate scales to measure the success probability of a candidate contesting in the Jersey rather the pattern of winning the two has surfaced twice. In 2006 Jeremy landed in both the races and the next year, 2007, Tariq dictated the terms of both the races.
Backing him up are the 5/1 odds and the eighteenth stall along with the partner in success jockey, Paul Hanagan.
The three-year-old will need to look out for Reply, Sentaril and Valbchek.
