Aljaz Bedene sails past Andreas Beck into final four – Loughborough Challenger 2011
The men’s quarterfinals at the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger continued on November 11, 2011. Andreas Beck (Germany) played the match against Aljaz Bedene (Slovenia). Beck was not in his top form as Bedene won the match in
straight set, 6-2, 6-4.
Bedene, ranked at 106th spot in the world, played exceptional tennis. He delivered ten aces in the match with a double fault only once. On the other hand, Beck could only score four aces and conceded double faults four
times in the match.
In the first set, Bedene scored six aces with a double fault once, which showed his accurate service games and aggressive game play. Bedene had a slightly higher first serve winning ratio with 58% as compared to Bedene’s 55%. The
Slovenian was near flawless with his serves as he won 91% points from his first serve and 67% points from his second serve.
Beck, on the other hand, could win 68% points from his first serve and only 31% points from his second serve. Bedene was playing all of his service games with ease as none of his serves were broken by the German. But Beck was not
able to defend his service games with precision.
The German could save five out of the seven breakpoints he faced in the set. The Slovenian won the first set 6-2.
As the second set went underway, Bedene managed to deliver four aces and retained his dominance over Beck. The German, ranked at 178th place in the world, was trying to gain a lead as he scored with three aces. Bedene
did not concede any double fault, which kept him on the front foot throughout the set.
Beck had a 66% first serve winning ratio while Bedene secured a 57% rate. The Slovenian was ahead as he won 85% points from his first serves but his points reduced to 47% in his second serves. Beck, on the other hand, was on the
back foot as he won 70% points from his first serve and 50% from his second.
Just like as in the first set, when Bedene did not let his serves got broken, similarly, in the second set he did not let that happen either. The German was unable to break any of Bedene’s serves. Beck was again unsuccessful as
he could win three out of four breakpoints.
Beck was eyeing a second set win to tie the match and take it into the third set, but Bedene’s consistent pace and decent run in all of his service games let him retain his lead. Bedene won the second set 6-4 and entered the semi
finals of the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger.
