Aljaz Bedene sails past Daniel Evans into final eight – AEGON Pro-Series Loughborough 2011 CH
The men’s singles second round matches at the 2011 AEGON Pro-Series Loughborough continued on November 9, 2011. Aljaz Bedene (Slovenia) played his match against Daniel Evans (Great Britain). Bedene won the match 7-6(4), 6-1.
In the first set, both the players had a flying start. The players played their service games well, as Bedene won 91% points from his first serve and Evans won 81%. The Slovenian player scored two aces and did not concede any double
fault. Evans, on the other hand, scored five aces and did concede two double faults.
Evans was hoping to win the first set to gain a lead, that is why he was aggressive in his service games and forcefully gave points to his opponent.
It is interesting to note that none of the players let their service games to be broken. This meant they were not able to play offensively and were only playing defensive shots, which earned them points and did not let their opponent
to win their service games.
Beck won 91% points on his first serve while Evans won 81% points. Their points for the second serve declined as Bedene could win 60% from his second serve and Evans could win 55%.
Both players played the first set with their nerves and did not let any lead to be created in their scores. That is the reason why the first set entered into a tiebreaker. The British was looking for a win but the Slovenian won
the set 7-6(4).
With the second set in progress, the 22-year old Slovenian was dominant over the 21-year old Evans. Bedene, ranked at 178th place in the world, scored three aces in the second set with a double fault once into the set.
Evans, ranked at 355th spot, was able to score two aces but did not concede any double fault.
Again, in the second set, both players were performing well with equal statistics. The first serve percentage of the players was quite low as Bedene had a 50% first serve winning ratio and Evans had a 53% winning rate.
Bedene was ahead in terms of winning points on first serve as he won 75% points. Evans was not that effective with by winning points on his first serve as he could only win 33% points. Evans, however, did recover by scoring points
on his second serves as he won 63% points as compared to the 67% second serve points won by Bedene.
The Slovenian was able to save both of his breakpoints while Evans could not save any of the two breakpoints he faced. The British player did not have any strategy to start his counter attack against Bedene for the Slovenian was
winning games and moving ahead. Evans could only win a single game in the second set as Bedene won it 6-1. The Slovenian has now moved into the quarterfinals of the tournament.
