Alkali and acid questions?

1) Which is the main cause of acid rain [i am thinking it is sulphur dioxide but i am not quite sure].

2) What happens to the pH of hydrochloric acid when it is diluted.

3) Is bleach and washing powder an alkali, if not can you name two common alkali's used at home.

  1. 1) you are right sulphur dioxide is a main cause for acid rain, in addition to nitrogen oxides.

    2) the pH won't change

    3) No they are not, and the two common alkalies used at home are sodium bicarbonate (in baking powder) sodium hydroxide which is used as a powder to clean blocked sewage pipes.
