I have a few questions; (I wish not for just a link, i want answers please)

1. I have a 16 week old pom, he is growing in some fur...is this his adult fur?

2. When will his full coat be in?

3. What can i do to make the fur shiney?

4. Are Pomeranians fast learners?

5. His fur is currently lying strait on his back, is there a way to make the fur stand up?

6. How often should i give a bath?

7. Do you think that when he is about 6 months, would it be ok to take him camping, or traveling?

8. Now, he doesnt do to well in cars, he throws up when he comes out of the car. Will he outgrow this? If he wont outgrow it, is there a way to manage it?

9. Anything else that you think i should know about pomeranians.

10. Any tips on voice commands or tricks would be helpful also.

If you dont know all the questions, feel free to just answer the ones that you know.

Thanks

  1. I'll try my best to help :)

Poms get there full coats at around 9 months old. Before that, they go through this "ugly" puppy stage of outgrowing their puppy coat!

It is imporatant to feed your Poms super premium pet food bought from a pet shop-this will help get his coat shiney.

You don't need to bathe them too often but be sure to trim the fur from around his bum.I bathe my dogs every 2 or so weeks with any dog shampoo.

You can pretty much take your dog anywhere once he has had all his vaccinations-be sure to keep him on a leash.

Before taking him in the car make sure you don't feed him at least an hour before you travel also a few drops of "Rescue Remedy" - a natural stress reliever helps calm them.

Goodluck with your new Pomeranian, they are the most adorable toy dog around-be sure to give him heaps of cuddles! :)

  2. Pomeranian Coats:

Poms actually have 2 coats, a top coat and an under coat; during their puppy stage, they will end up losing alot of their puppy coat.

It's important to know, that the Pomeranians coat will change drastically from puppy hood to adulthood. When you first got your Pom, she was probably had light fluffy fur but at around six months of age this will change and they will start to grow in their beautiful double coat that Pomeranians are known for. You will see another change, when the dog sheds its first coat. You'll be able to get a good indication of what you're puppy's coat may look like when she is an adult by looking at the code of her parents. I

Grooming your Pomeranian is not the arduous task you might think it would be. They can very easily become matted, especially around the backs of the legs, behind the ears, under the belly and the chest area so daily brushing is probably best to avoid this and is a fun way to bond with your dog. When your Pomeranian is shedding you should take care to remove all the dead hair so that new hair can grow in. A nylon brush is best for brushing your Pom and you should really dampen her coat before you brush her.

In the summer, you can trim your Pom's hair down if you like the look and you should always take care to do a little skinny trim under the tail has this long hair can become soiled.

In fact the coloring of the pom can change dramatically over the coarse of the 2 years of coat changes.

Also diet can be a bit participating factor in their coats, be sure you are feeding her a balanced/nutrional diet and that she gets plenty of exercise.

I have 3 little boys, 2 are fluffy and 1 has a slick coat - they go to the pet spa for grooming about every 6-7 weeks.  My boys love to travel but I have never taken them camping (maybe a whole new experience for all us).

Some dogs do not take kindly to cars - but repeated trips should calm him down some - if not talk with our vet and I am sure he can be of some help.

I just absolutely love this toy breed - they are a very small dog with a big giant heart.  Their loyalty and commitment is an unconditional love one never forgets...

  3. You have asked this same question 3-4 times already. Don't you check your answers?

Here is the answer I gave you on your other question like this........

    1. Between 4 and 9 months of age your pom will go through it's "Puppy Ugly" stage where it will lose it's puppy coat and grow into it's adult coat.

    2. Usually the adult coat will be in between 9 months and a year. After one year the adult coat is in.

    3. Just keep your pom brushed and bathed once a month. Grooming around it's rear area will also help keep your pom cleaner and looking nice.

    4. All of our poms have learned very quickly. Of course I had all the time in the world to train them.

    5. Not all poms sure will stand up. All coats are different. Some are full and fluffy while others are thinner and lay flat.

    6. Bathe your pom once a month in a mild dog shampoo. When done blow drying and is totally dry make sure to trim the nails and trim the fur around the rear end.

    7. As long as your pom is UTD on all his puppy vaccines and has had his rabies vaccine it will be fine. Just make sure you take along a harness/collar and a leash. You don't want anything bad to happen while on vacation. Make sure to take his food, water and food bowls and brush.

    8. Some will out grow the motion sickenss other don't. If yours does not the vet can give you something for your pet.

    9. Take them to the vet at least once a year for a check up and to have their teeth cleaned. If your poms teeth are not cleaned you run the risk of premature tooth loss or infections. Feeding dry dog food helps remove the tartar build up.

    10. Just be consistant in your training. Poms shed twice a year. So keeping them brushed will cut down on the fur in the house. Males do not shed as much as the females, but still need to be brushed at least every other day, no less.

They do not do well when it is really hot out. They can over heat very fast and cause heat stroke. Make sure you have a cool place for them to rest in. They are very friendly little dogs and do little dances for treats. They love to be on peoples laps all day if you let them.

    Good Luck.

  4. I am a Pomeranian breeder and have been for over 8 yrs. All poms go through a stage called the pom uglies. It starts about 3 months and last for up to 6 months before their adult coat comes in. They can look really bad for that time. But it will pass, Some poms have slick coats and not full coats. If your puppy had a full coat when young it should have a full coat as an adult. Don't know of any thing to make the coat shiny, mostly the slick haired ones have the shiny coat.  From my experience with poms they are very intelligent dogs and fast learners. So you should start their training  immediately  Like most dogs , they are not to fond of the Bath . some like it most do not, so a bath every couple of weeks would be fine.At 6 months he should enjoy camping with you as long as you keep him safe ,Most dogs get over the car sickness when they are older, just keep taking him on short trips , until he gets use to it.If the car sickness continues, just get something from the vet when you plan on traveling with him. If you don't want a yappy dog you should start teaching him that barking is not a good thing. Other wise they think you like it when they are being yappy little buddies. Just use the normal voice commands you would with any dog, they will learn what you mean. just be consistent. Poms like to do dances on their back two legs, don't encourage this as poms tend to have Knee problems. It is a Pomeranian thing bad knees. Hope this helps you out, I have been with poms for many years
