All Blacks’ Dan Carter to work on drop-goal skills for RWC 2011 - Rugby News
All Blacks star player, Dan Carter, has committed to enhance his drop-goal skills for the upcoming Rugby World Cup 2011. Carter is credited as one of the best kickers in Super Rugby on penalty shots and conversions. He has scored most of his career points
on penalty kicks and conversions and has expressed his hope to further work on drop-goal shots to help his side do its best.
Talking to the reporters on Wednesday, July 6, Carter said that drop-goals could play a vital role in the world showpiece and he has to work on the skill. He further said that, “You can’t avoid it. It's important, especially come World Cup time when games
are so intense and tight. Historically, the All Blacks and myself do not take a lot of dropped goals but it's an important part of my position. I'm working away at it and building my confidence so I can bring it out when needed.”
Dan Carter is a key player for the All Blacks and his squad is expecting him to be a major contributor in the Rugby World Cup 2011. RWC is kicking off in two months at New Zealand. The All Blacks, who won their first and only crown in 1987 as hosts are committed
to repeat history and the All Blacks have tried to create a team with experience and talent.
Dan Carter, who is playing in the ongoing Super Rugby championship for the Crusaders, has boosted his side throughout the tournament. He helped the Crusaders with 19 points with his well measured shots at goal during the semi-final contest against the Stormers,
on July 2.
Dan Carter claimed that most of the teams take the All Blacks as a challenge and New Zealanders should be aware of this. He argued that, “I know the opposition love playing and beating the All Blacks -- just look at the French team on a couple of occasions.”
France had outclassed the All Blacks in the play-offs of Rugby World Cups several times. The All Blacks were knocked out from quarter-finals by the French side in 1999 and 2007. Carter missed the last quarter-final due to an injury and his side lost the
match by 20-18 after a close contest.
