All Blacks centre Sonny Bill Williams leaves fans guessing his future – Rugby News
Sonny Bill Williams is not ready to reveal his future planes until the end of Rugby World Cup 2011. The versatile player has got heaps of offers to choose from but at the moment he wants to fully concentrate on the global showpiece starting next month on September 9. Talking to reporters on August 29, Williams said that he has not decided his future yet and will make a decision after the conclusion of RWC 2011.
Sonny Bill Williams has been approached by various local and overseas clubs to play for them after he indicated that he will not be playing for the Crusaders, with whom he started off his Super Rugby career. Williams remained impressive for the New Zealander derby and helped the side to the final of the championship. However, the Crusaders ended up losing their Super Rugby journey and left runners-up.
Sonny was looking for a starting role in the forthcoming Webb Ellis Trophy but the All Blacks coach, Graham Henry, has suggested a bench role for him and Ma’a Nonu has been preferred over him for the number 12 position.
In his latest conversation with the media, Williams said that he has talked to the coaches of Blues and Chiefs but has not come to terms with any franchise yet. He has also indicated an overseas deal if he finds it in the best interests of his family.
He stated that, “People have been pushing me to make a decision but for me it's about doing what's best for myself and for my family and at this stage I won't be making a decision until after the World Cup, and I'll just be concentrating now on the World Cup and trying to get a spot.”
Bill Williams added that, “I've spoken to (Blues coach) Pat Lam and I've spoken to (new Chiefs assistant coach) Wayne Smith and told them how I'm thinking, so everything's all good. I just really want to concentrate on these next eight weeks.”
Sonny Bill Williams was not included in the All Blacks playing squad during the Tri-Nations decider against the Wallabies on August 27.
