All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw to announce his future with NZRU tomorrow - Rugby News
All Blacks skipper, Richie McCaw, will reveal his future plans tomorrow, May 25th, in a press conference. He is expected to make the announcement of his re-signing with New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) as his present contract will see an end after
the forthcoming Rugby World Cup. NZRU is trying to retain his services for further two or three years.
Many European clubs including the most expensive French club, Toulon, are approaching the veteran McCaw to pen a deal. However, he has not made any decision yet, despite hefty offers. Earlier, his team-mate Dan Carter re-signed with the Union for a further
four years last week. Carter was also offered a big package by overseas clubs, but he preferred the All Blacks jersey.
McCaw is also expected make a similar decision as he hinted to the media today morning. He said that, "The reason I want to stay, and look to stay, is if I'm enjoying it. I've never made any bones about that. I haven't played much this year and I'm keen
to get out on the field and play. That's a good sign."
He further said that it he has been playing for the All Blacks for a while and it would hurt him to move apart at this stage. McCaw made his International rugby debut in 2001 against Ireland and has participated in 94 matches for his national side. The openside
flanker is currently engaged in Super Rugby for Crusaders. He has been playing for them since 2001 and was made the skipper of the side in 2005.
Talking about big offers McCaw stated that, “If you're enjoying not playing you'd start questioning it but I certainly have the hunger this year, to want to be out on the field is there. You take those into consideration. If it's just what goes into your
bank account, I think no matter what job you did it, if that was the case it doesn't last that long.”
McCaw would be the second big name of this year after Carter to re-sign with the New Zealand Rugby Union.
