All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw to decide his post Rugby World Cup future by the end of next week
Richie McCaw, the All Blacks skipper, will announce his decision Rugby World Cup. McCaw told the media on May 19th, during a practice session that he will soon put pen to paper not later than the end of next week. McCaw is reported to be following
in the footsteps of his colleague, Dan Carter, who signed a new four year deal with New Zealand Rugby Union on yesterday.
Most All Blacks player contracts with NZRU are expiring after the forthcoming Rugby World Cup, kicking off later this year in September. The All Blacks’ skipper McCaw has a similar contract with the union which is ending with the largest event of this year.
McCaw spoke to reporters after a training session and said that he had not made a decision yet. He added that he would come to terms by the end of next week. He claimed, "I haven't signed yet because I haven't said anything yet but hopefully in the next
week or so get things sorted. Still working through a couple of things but, (we're) getting pretty close which is good."
He further said that the decision has been delayed due to an injury he sustained three weeks before. McCaw has been suffering from a hamstring problem for the last three weeks and hasn’t participated in the last three games of Super Rugby for the Crusaders.
McCaw has been also approached by various overseas clubs that want him to sign for them. This is a similar situation Dan Carter was in before he signed yesterday. Carter was offered a flexible deal by the Union which he accepted after negotiations. Richie
McCaw appreciated Dan Carter’ re-signing and said he was pleased with the move. He said, “It’s bloody good that he has re-signed for New Zealand rugby and the Crusaders. Certainly as a fella that plays in his team it's great to have a guy like that for an
extended period.”
However the Crusaders coach said that he wasn’t aware of the latest progress about McCaw’s re-signing. Blackadder said that if he signs new deal it would be good for NZRU.
