All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw to get surgery on foot - Rugby News
All Blacks captain, Richie McCaw, has been diagnosed with a stress fracture around s***w in his foot that will require surgery to be removed. The All Blacks team doctor, Deb Robinson, told the media on November 4, that McCaw will undergo a surgery to get
rid of an old foot injury which is the best option for the player. McCaw has been suffering from the same injury since last year. In fact, he already has had surgery during the current year but the critical problem remains uncured.
The iperation will again deprive the player from a large part of Super Rugby championship 2012, as he has missed a fair share of matches during the current year. McCaw, who leads the Crusaders in the championship, joined his side late in the event but still
managed to guide the team through to the final and remained runners up.
Richie McCaw has participated in the entire Rugby World Cup 2011, with a bad foot with great courage. He actually missed a couple of pool matches from the global showpiece but came back strongly in the knockout stages. He was feared to miss the crown deciding
contest against France as he was seen limping in the practice sessions.
Later on, All Blacks coach Graham Henry, admitted the fact that his skipper was in a great pain before the match but decided to play the vital match. Henry, who has resigned now from his job, paid rich tribute to McCaw and declared him the best ever leader
for the All Blacks.
Meanwhile, All Blacks team doctor Deb Robinson told the reporters that injury was of severe nature and it is hard to give a timeline of his return to the side. He added that, “When we are talking about timelines, we are not really that sure. And so what
we are going to do is give him all the time that he needs to ensure he is completely better before he returns to play.”
He also stated that, “While the initial stress fracture in his foot has partially healed, the scan revealed that there is an area of bone stress around the s***w.”
Super Rugby 2012 is kicking off on February 24, in Eden Park, Auckland, where Crusaders will take on the Blues.
