All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams in boxing match for Christchurch – Super Rugby news
All Blacks and Crusaders star rugby player, Sonny Bill Williams, is fighting a boxing match for the earthquake hit people of Christchurch. The Crusaders have a bye on this weekend in the ongoing Super Rugby season, following their previous defeat from the
Queensland Reds on May 29. Versatile player, Williams will take on the Alipate Liava'a, a Tongan gospel's singer on June 5 in Auckland.
Sonny Bill Williams, who could shine in an important game against the Reds, is hopeful to do well in the boxing ring. The charity bout has been scheduled to help the earthquake hit people of Christchurch. A devastating tremor hit the third largest city of
New Zealand on February 22, that left 190 people killed and as many as 160 missing and thousands of collapsed houses.
The Christchurch based Super Rugby derby, Crusaders, were left homeless after the severe quake in their city. The AMI stadium in city was announced unfit to host any matches of the forthcoming Rugby World Cup. The Crusaders were present in the city when
natural disaster took place.
Sonny has got some valuable tips by Samoa's heavyweight boxer, David Tua, for this particular match and said he is ready for his fourth fight. He told the media about his fight today morning and said, “I've prepared as much as I could under the circumstances
and I'm really excited. A lot of people have had a crack at me because of his age. But I definitely know where I am in the sport. I'm no David Tua or Anthony Mundine.”
Talking about the tips he got from Samoa’s star boxer, Williams said that his guidelines will help in the fight, “I've only had 3 fights, and no amateur fights. He's had 11 fights so he's had more experience than me so it's going to be a tough fight. He
brought a smile on my face. I'm a proud Samoan and they come no bigger in the [Pacific] Islands than David [Tua].”
Sonny Bill Williams also thanked the Crusaders for allowing him to fight in the middle of the season.
