All Chinese Women's Single finals to be played at 2011 World Championships – Table Tennis News
The Chinese will dominate the Women’s Singles finals of the GAC GROUP 2011 World Table Tennis Championships, as Ding Ning and her compatriot in the national Chinese team, Li Xiaoxia will be fighting for the gold on May 14 at the Ahoy Arena Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The best that Ding Ning has so far achieved at the World Championship was to reach the fourth round of the Women's Singles of the 2009 tournament held at Yokohama, Japan. It was the first time that the young player from Beijing appeared in the World Championship.
For Xiaoxia luck has been pretty much in her favour as she was the runner up of the 2007 Liebherr World Championships. She was defeated by Guo Yue in the match for gold.
This year Xiaoxia levelled matters with Guo Yue and defeated her at the semi-final stage of the World Championship in straight games, scoring 11-5, 11-6, 11-7 and 11-8.
Xiaoxia said, “My heavy topspin play stopped her playing, I think I was better prepared by thoughts did turn to the final in 2007 when I led three-one and lost, that is why in the fourth game I took a Time Out when I was leading 9-8; Guo Yue is a very tenacious
player, she was fighting back and it was important I changed the rhythm of the play.”
At the quarter-final stage Xiaoxia defeated her compatriot Fan Ying, who earlier in the championship caused a major upset in the Women's Singles round of 32, as she defeated the Number Three seeded Japanese player Ai Fukuhara.
Fan Ying was defeated by Yue in the quarter-finals in a head-to-head match. The contest remained level until the sixth game, but Yue stepped ahead and won the seventh game of the match. She dominated the last game from beginning with the final score 4-11,
7-11, 11-4, 11-8, 5-11, 11-5, 4-11.
Ning defeated Liu Shiwen in six games with a match score of 11-13, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, 11-8 and 11-6. Shiwen is on the fifth seed of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Women's Singles ranking.
In the quarter-final stage Ning defeated the only non-Chinese player in the round, Feng Tianwei from Singapore. It was a straight set victory for Ning with a score of 11-3, 11-5, 11-6 and 11-4.
Ning showed an outstanding performance since the very beginning of the very of the main rounds.
Ding said, “When I was losing it was just a case of fighting as hard as I could, I tried to change the rhythm of the play and attack quicker after the service.”
Both of the players, Ning and Yue will be fighting for the Women's crown at the final stage. No matter who wins the title, it is destined for the Chinese players.
