All England Cup Trials recap
Newcastle hosted four Trial stakes for the All England Cup on Saturday. The first round of heats is set to start on 30 October, and the £10,000 final will be run on 10 November.
All England Cup Trial Stakes - Div D
It was Craighall Horse winning the division D race with a time of 28.86 seconds. Horse took the lead on the first bend, and was never really challenged by the other racers as he finished 3¾ lengths ahead of second place finisher Melview Ace.
After Ace came Frisby Foals in third place and Mill Trissy in fourth. The 6-4 race favourite, November Weather, baulked on the first bend, and then again on the fourth before finishing in fifth place. Last went to Ginas Boy.
All England Cup Trial Stakes - Div C
Wilfy Wells won the division C race as a 7-4 joint favourite with Cool Blue Barrel. Wells took the lead from Taylors Cruise as they neared the finish line to win by a head with a time of 29.13. Barrel finished another 1½ lengths behind in third.
Fourth place went to Hesley Dingo, and fifth to Move Over Austin. Finishing in last was Outside Interest.
All England Cup Trial Stakes - Div B
The division B race was renamed to the Kathleen Taylor 80th Birthday Trophy, but it was still an All England Cup Trial. Welton Storm was replaced by Raisby Boy in the fourth trap in this one.
Colliery Lad won the race easily after taking an early lead. Lad beat Raisby by 2½ lengths with a time of 29.00. In third was Target Classic, who had a slow start and lost ground on the third bend, but stayed within a length of Raisby.
Crown River finished fourth and Glanard Bay in fifth, a head behind River. Nifty Crash finished last after a very slow start.
All England Cup Trial Stakes - Div A
The division A race saw Mill Pinpoint return to the winner's circle after looking terrible in his last three races. Pinpoint’s last win was in the £7500 Betfair Steel City Cup Final. He was the even odds favourite in this one, and won by 5¼ lengths over
Droopys Kentucky with an impressive time of 28.54.
Third place went to Peggys Way, who came into the race with 5-4 odds. Fourth place went to Big Ronnie Doppa, and fifth to Target Mclaren. Redstone Mark, a 20-1 long shot, finished in last place.
