All England Open: Chou Tien Chen stuns Muhammad Hafiz Hashim in qualifying round – Badminton news
Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen made his presence felt to the world as he defeated Malaysia’s Muhammad Hafiz Hashim in Men’s Singles qualifying round of All England Open Premier Super Series 2012 at Birmingham, England, on Tuesday, March 6.
The World Number 56 Tien Chen showed his brilliance against the higher ranked Hashim who has been placed at number 32 in the Men’s Singles world standings.
The lower ranked Taipei shuttler put up remarkable show of top quality badminton against the Malaysian and won the match in three games by consuming 49 minutes in the court.
In the opening set, Hafiz showed his superiority in the game by playing with wonderful precision. He took a remarkable lead in the first half by playing flawless badminton.
On the other hand, Tien Chen could not stop the aggression of his higher ranked Malaysian rival in the opening half and remained behind at 5-11 until the break.
After the interval, Tien Chen tried to match the speed of his challenger but failed to control the bird and also lost his focus. He remained far behind on the score board and lost the set with a huge difference of 11-21.
In the second game, Tien Chen changed his game plan and put up wonderful show of attacking badminton and remained equal to his opponent until the score reached at 7-7.
The Taipei shuttler remained on track and set up a reasonable lead of 11-8 until the one-minute break in the second game.
After the break, Tien Chen continued playing positive and planned badminton and did not spare any chance for his challenger to level the score. He managed to win the second game with a 21-15 score on the board.
In the decider, Tien Chen was the first to take a reasonable lead at the early stage. He was in complete control and dictated his higher ranked rival in all areas of the court. Until the break, he was ahead at 11-6.
After the break, he progressed without facing any trouble and bagged the final game with a one-sided 21-12 score on the board.
The overall result of this Men’s Singles qualifying-round encounter was 11-21, 21-15 and 21-12.
