All England Open: Intanon Ratchanok thrashes Saina Nehwal in Women’s Singles semi-final
Thailand’s impressive player Intanon Ratchanok showed a superb performance and reached in the Women’s Singles final after defeating her higher ranked opponent Saina Nehwal of India in the semi-final of Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships 2013
on Saturday, March 9, in England.
The aggressive Ratchanok, who was the second seed in Women’s Singles main draw of the championship, was in complete command in the arena and she outplayed the second seeded Saina in a dominating fashion in 40 minutes.
Thai lady was in superb form and she did not let her higher ranked Indian opponent to take control of rallies at any stage. She remained fully focused throughout this semi-final clash and won it in straight games with a convincing margin of 21-15 and 21-19.
The second seeded Saina, on the other hand, was the favourite to win this match but she failed to continue her winning run. She could not control the pace of rallies and eventually went down against her lower ranked Thai challenger without winning any set.
It was a crunchy fight in the starting rallies when Ratchanok showed a wonderful display of her craft in the arena and she did not let Saina to dictate the terms.
The impressive fight between both shuttler continued in the opening half of first game and they remained close on the board until the one-minute break.
Ratchanok did not show any sign of confusion as she remained in complete control of rallies after the one-minute break. She started to build lead and stayed focused in the arena that helped her to maintain pressure on her challenger.
In the concluding phase of opening game, the positive and aggressive play of Ratchanok helped her to grab the first game with a stunning margin of 21-15.
Ratchanok did not lose her control at any stage in the starting part of second game as she played with control and precision and managed to stay ahead of her Indian rival.
Until the one-minute break, the impressive Ratchanok remained consistent in playing with command and variations and managed a reasonable lead until the break.
The attacking and positive play in the ending half of second set assisted Ratchanok to grab the set with a close 21-19 score on the board.
