All England Open: Lee Hyun Il tames Daren Liew in Men’s Singles quarter-final – Badminton news
Korea’s experienced player Lee Hyun Il proved his seniority in the game as he did not face any trouble while beating Malaysia’s Daren Liew in Men’s Singles quarter-final of 2012 All England Open Premier Super Series on Friday, March 9, in Birmingham.
The World Number Seven Lee Hyun, who is the eighth seed in Men’s Singles draw of the Championship, proved that growing age does not matter for him as he tamed the young Daren without facing any problem.
It was a one-sided battle as Korean dominated the contest with superb craft and ended it in straight games in just 34 minutes.
In the opening set of the match, Lee Hyun started his run in an authoritative manner and remained ahead of his lower ranked opponent.
Daren also accelerated his speed and managed to level the score by reaching at 7-7. However, he could not take a lead as his opponent started to employ deceptive shots.
Lee Hyun played wonderful game at net and manipulated the loopholes of his young challenger. He was ahead at 11-8 until the one-minute break.
After the break, the Korean played positive and composed badminton and continued his supremacy in the arena. He remained in control and easily won the first set with a striking margin of 21-15.
In the second game, Daren started well as he took a small lead. However, he could not maintain it as his higher ranked opponent became aggressive and levelled the score at 3-3.
Lee Hyun was in complete control and he did not drop the speed of rallies at any stage. Until the 60-second break, he was ahead at 11-6.
After the break, Daren tried to play different game by accelerating his speed at net but failed to break the rhythm of his opponent.
On the other hand, Lee Hyun remained positive in the entire set and bagged it with an impressive margin of 21-13.
The Korean won this Men’s Singles quarter-final fight in two games with a 21-15 and 21-13 score on the board.
In the semi-final battle, Lee Hyun will face the top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia who easily won his quarter-final match against Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka of Indonesia.
