All England Open: Marc Zwiebler beats Parupalli Kashyap to reach into Men’s Singles round-of-16
Germany’s Marc Zwiebler advances into Men’s Singles round-of-16 after beating India’s Parupalli Kashyap in the first round of All England Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Wednesday, March 7, in Birmingham, England.
Zwiebler, who has been placed at number 14 in Men’s Singles world standings, worked hard against his lower ranked Indian opponent and managed to win the fight in three games.
Zwiebler played authoritative game in the opening set and got a strong position by reaching at 11-6 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the German continued his gutsy performance against his Indian challenger and did not commit unforced errors.
In the meanwhile, the Indian tried to match the speed of his higher ranked opponent by injecting more power in his strokes but he failed as his rival was taking the bird with a wonderful ease.
Zwiebler took advantage in this match by winning the first set with a remarkable 21-13 score on the board.
In the second game, Zwiebler was on track as he took an early lead by playing attacking and positive badminton.
However, Kashyap also played well this time as he managed to level the score at 8-8.
However, until the break, the German was slightly ahead on the score board by reaching at 11-9.
After the break, Kashyap accelerated his speed and levelled the score at 13-13. He did not lose his focus at this stage and remained dominant.
On the other hand, Zwiebler lost his focus in the game as he failed to execute strokes in the right areas. He eventually lost the second set to Kashyap with a 15-21 score on the board.
In the deciding game, the score remained equal from both sides until 6-6 when Zwiebler changed his mind and started to play aggressive badminton.
His strategy worked well as he managed a wonderful lead of 11-6 until the one-minute interval in the deciding set.
After the break, Zwiebler showed no mercy to Kashyap throughout the concluding set and bagged it with a striking margin of 21-9.
The German won this three-set battle in 65 minutes with a 21-13, 15-21 and 21-9 score on the board.
