All England Open Premier Super Series: Jenny Wallwork and Nathan Robertson receive favourable draw
England’s Mixed Doubles shuttlers Jenny Wallwork and Nathan Robertson have found a favourable draw at the home event of All England Premier Super Series, starting from March 6, at Birmingham, England.
Wallwork and Robertson, who are placed at number 18 in Mixed Doubles world rankings have failed to win any major tournament for the last one year.
However, they are ready to grab the chance to get precious ranking points by performing well in the All England Open as their draw is not that tough and they have a chance to improve their world rankings.
Currently Imogen Bankier and Chris Adcock are the highest ranked shuttlers in Britain as they are World Number 14 and stand a better chance to qualify for Olympic Games.
But they remained unlucky as they have found a tough draw in the All England Open. It gives an extra advantage to lower ranked Wallwork and Robertson to narrow the gap in world rankings.
In the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Wallwork and Robertson played good badminton and grabbed silver medal. But they failed to continue their winning run in the following tournaments and remained unlucky in winning any considerable title in the last year.
However, their chances are quite high to perform well in this home event as they have been handed over a reasonable draw in the Mixed Doubles main round.
Wallwork and Robertson will take on Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul of Thailand in the opening round of the tournament.
Their real test will be against the World Number Five pair of, Chen Hung Ling and Cheng Wen Hsing of Chinese Taipei, in the round-of-16.
Wallwork said, "We've not pulled a seeded pair and fingers crossed we can play as well as possible and come up with some good results. Every tournament we play now is massive for us and we need to progress to the latter rounds.”
She further added, "It's a very intensive environment, we are both fighting for the same thing and we just need to focus on the next few tournaments. Ideally we could have both qualified but that wasn't to be.”
Wallwork and Robertson are confident to take advantage of this home event and improve their world ranking which will keep their hopes alive to qualify for the Olympic Games.
