All England Open: Sho Sasaki slays Jan O Jorgensen in Men’s Singles first round – Badminton news
Japan’s top shuttler Sho Sasaki proved his elevated skills when he hammered Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen in Men’s Singles first round at All England Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Wednesday, March 7, in England.
The World Number Six Sasaki, who is the sixth seed in Men’s Singles draw of the tournament, played to his maximum abilities and overpowered Jorgensen who is World Number 13 at the moment.
The higher ranked Japanese employed all of his skills and managed to chuck out the Danish opponent in straight games with a decent margin.
On the other hand, Jorgensen, who started the game in a tremendous fashion, could not maintain his elevated run and remained struggling against his in-form rival.
In the first set, both men showed their hard-to-learn skills by playing at their maximum speed and remained toe-to-toe until 6-6.
At this stage, Jorgensen played well and created pressure on his higher ranked Japanese opponent. He managed a reasonable lead of 9-6 on the score board.
However, Sasaki accelerated his speed and managed to reach at 9-9 by playing positive badminton.
Until the break in the starting set, Sasaki was slightly behind his Danish rival at 9-11.
After the one-minute interval, the higher ranked Japanese again showed his brilliance by taking the bird early from all areas of the court and managed to remain equal to his opponent until 18-18.
At this crucial stage, Jorgensen could not dictate the pace of rallies as his rival was quicker in all areas of the court. Sasaki took the opening set with a three-point advantage of 21-18.
In the second game, Sasaki was the first to set up a wonderful lead in the opening half as he played with precision and put up 11-7 score on the board.
On the other hand, Jorgensen tried his best to play attacking badminton but kept on missing the mark. He failed to match the speed and perfection of his Japanese opponent.
After the break, the Danish played better game and levelled the score at 14-14. However, Sasaki was focused and composed in the court and managed to take the second set with a tight margin of 21-19.
This Men’s Singles straight-set fight ended with the victory of Sasaki who put up superb show and thrashes Jorgensen with a 21-18 and 21-19 score on the board.
