All England Open: Tai Tzu Ying ousts Sung Ji Hyun in Women’s Singles quarter-final – Badminton news
Chinese Taipei’s talented female shuttler Tai Tzu Ying delivered a sensational performance in the Women’s Singles quarter-final when she defeated Sung Ji Hyun of Korea in All England Open Premier Super Series 2012 in Birmingham, on Friday, March 9.
The un-seeded Tzu Ying, who is placed at number 16 in Women’s Singles world placements, showed her hard-to-learn skills and thrashed the World Number 11 Ji Hyun in a hard-fought match that took three games of attacking badminton from both sides.
Tzu Ying managed to produce better form in the end and emerged as the winner of this contest by working hard for 56 minutes in the court.
It was one of the most entertaining battles of the day where both elite shuttlers put up sensational show of aggressive badminton.
Both females were in complete control of rallies in the opening half of first set and also remained close until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Tzu Ying played dominating badminton and reached at 20-16 when her higher ranked rival surprisingly took six consecutive points and bagged the set.
The Taipei shuttler lost the first game with a 20-22 score on the board.
In the second game, Tzu Ying played aggressive badminton and reached at 9-6 when Ji Hyun changed her strategy and played positive game and levelled the score.
Until the one-minute break, both shuttlers were quite close on the score board.
After the break, Tzu Ying again took over the control and dictated the pace of rallies by increasing her speed. She was impressive in the court and managed to take the second set with an incredible difference of 21-14.
In the decider, Tzu Ying displayed her brilliance by playing on a different level. She easily managed an 11-5 lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, she remained on track without facing any resistance from her Korean rival and bagged the set with a 21-14 score on the board.
The Taipei lady emerged as victorious of this three-set contest with a margin of 20-22, 21-14 and 21-14.
In the semi-final clash, Tzu Ying will be up against China’s Li Xuerui who hammered India’s Saina Nehwal in another top-eight encounter.
