All England Open: Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei bagged Women’s Doubles crown – Badminton news
China’s in-form shuttlers Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei delivered an amazing performance as they bagged Women’s Doubles crown in All England Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Sunday, March 11, at Birmingham, England.
In the final showdown, Qing and Yunlei put up sensational show and defeated their compatriots Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang who were the top seeds in the championship.
The World Number Two Qing and Yunlei, who were the second seeds in Women’s Doubles draw of All England Open, were in smashing form as they claimed the title in an emphatic fashion without losing even a single set to their higher ranked team-mates.
In the first set of title match, both sides played attacking badminton and entertained the crowd with their hard-to-learn skills. They put up remarkable show of fast game and remained in the opening rallies.
However, until the end of opening half, the second seeds created a wonderful gap of 11-7 on the score board.
After the break, Xiaoli and Yang geared up their speed in all areas and controlled the pace of rallies. They dictated their opponents in all corners of the court and managed to level the score at 11-11.
At this stage, Qing and Yunlei changed their tactics and found a good rhythm which worked well as they remained successful in breaking the flow of their opponents.
The second seeds dictated the pace of rallies in the concluding half of first set and won it with a decent 21-17 score on the board.
In the second game, Qing and Yunlei showed their aggression in opening rallies and set up an early lead without facing much trouble from their higher ranked rivals.
On the other hand, Xiaoli and Yang remained struggling in playing fast badminton as they failed to break the defence of their opponents at any stage of the game.
Qing and Yunlei were at the top of their form as they played positive and planned game and took a wonderful lead of 11-5 until the break.
After the interval, they continued their elevated run and ended the set with a one-sided score of 21-12.
Qing and Yunlei won the final contest in straight sets with a 21-17 and 21-12 score on the board.
