All England Open: Viktor Axelsen overpowers Suppanyu Avihingsanon in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Denmark’s young player Viktor Axelsen advanced into the next stage of Men’s Singles qualifying round after beating Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon at All England Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Tuesday, March 6, in England.
Axelsen, who is currently World Number 30 in Men’s Singles category, had to work hard to overwhelm his spirited Thai opponent and managed to win the fight in three games.
On the other hand, Suppanyu put up great show and stretched his higher ranked rival to three games but failed to take final set and lost the match with a comprehensive margin.
In the opening set, both players snapped each other’s heel by employing their aggressive skills and remained equal on the score board until 7-7.
At this stage, the Axelsen displayed his craft as he played with precision and managed to set up a comfortable lead of 11-7 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Axelsen continued his impressive run by playing at his best speed and did not spare any loophole for his rival.
He did not face any trouble in and won the first set with a one-sided 21-9 score on the board.
However, it was a different story in the second set when Suppanyu showed his brilliance by playing to his maximum potential and remained slightly ahead at 11-10 until the one-minute break.
After the interval, he remained on track and stretched his lead by reaching at 17-12. At this stage, Axelsen accelerated his speed and levelled the score but failed to play positive game in the ending points and lost the set with a tight score of 21-23.
In the decider, Axelsen started the game in an attacking style and he did not let his rival to level the score at any stage in the first half. Until the break, he was far ahead of his Thai opponent by reaching at 11-4.
After the break, Axelsen remained dominant in the match and he did not lose his focus at any stage. He bagged the deciding set in a tremendous fashion with a 21-11 score on the board.
The young Danish won this Men’s Singles qualifying battle in three sets with a margin of 21-9, 21-23 and 21-11.
