  1. Shouldn't it be a verb...?  I'm thinking the word is either resign or transfer.


  2. Since you say that it can "only" be an adjective, a noun, or an adverb, I'm going to have to say that it's obviously a noun.

    "To quit his job and move away was something he had been long considering." See? I don't find it likely that this phrase would ever be used as a modifier.
