I need some inspiration!!! My dream is to own my hair salon. I need some pointers on achieving my goal!!! Please help

First you need to learn the trade.  Go to school and get the training you need to be a real professional.

Once you get a job you need to observe the operations and learn the business inside and out.

You have to observe your peers and see what the successful ones do and what they don't do.  By the same token look at the ones who aren't successful in the same light.  What do they do and, perhaps more importantly, what don't they do.

Once you have learned what to look for in a stylist you want to learn more about business in general.  Some of the things you should learn are:

1.  Basic bookkeeping -- You don't have to be an accountant, but you should know enough to be able to understand your books.

2.  Labor relations -- What are the laws that will affect you.  Minimum wages, Regular vs. Overtime (for example I understand that California requires the employer to provide meals if employees work more than some number of hours per day.)

3.  What types of locations are desirable and which -- based on the type of operation you wish to run -- are not.  Do you want a mall location, a free standing store, a converted victorian house?

4. Become customer oriented and make sure that all of your employees are customer oriented.  All too many businesses are treating their customers like lumps of clay and then wondering why they can't build customer loyalty.

I could keep on going, but if you master these 4 areas you will succeed.
